PM instructs authorities to boost rescue efforts in storm-hit areas.



Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has instructed authorities to accelerate and broaden rescue efforts in areas hit by recent heavy rainfall and flooding across the country.

He directed officials to swiftly restore key roads blocked by landslides, including the Karakoram Highway and the Naran-Babusar-Chilas route. The Chief Secretary of Gilgit-Baltistan was specifically tasked with ensuring stranded travelers receive shelter, food, and necessary aid.

Stressing public health concerns, the Prime Minister urged immediate steps to prevent disease outbreaks in flood-affected regions. He also called on the NDMA, PDMAs, and disaster management bodies in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir to develop a coordinated response plan for the upcoming monsoon season.

Local governments were advised to strengthen drainage and sewage systems to reduce the risk of urban flooding.

Expressing grief over the loss of lives and property, the Prime Minister extended his condolences and prayers to the victims of the disaster.
